Barcelona has started their overhauling by making contact with former Nice defender Malang sarr’ over move

Barcelona are reportedly considering a move for free agent Malang Sarr as they consider their options ahead of a major squad overhaul in the wake of their humiliating defeat by Bayern Munich.

The 8-2 loss at the hands of the German giants has already led to major upheaval at the Nou Camp with Quique Setien sacked and Ronald Koeman expected to replace him as manager.

After an emergency board meeting on Monday, the club’s hierarchy also promised a ‘restructure of the first team’ with further exits planned in the coming weeks and months.

But Barcelona are already believed to be looking into new players and Sarr, who is currently a free agent after leaving French side Nice this summer, is said to be of interest.

According to SPORT, sporting director Eric Abidal has already made contact with Sarr’s representatives and informed them of Barcelona’s interest.

The Frenchman is believed to have a significant number of offers from around Europe though, including Italian side Torino and Arsenal with manager Mikel Arteta looking to strengthen his back line.

Sarr, who is left-footed, made 119 appearances for Nice and impressed in Ligue 1 but could not come to terms on a new deal.

Reports last month claimed Arsenal had also made contact with Sarr’s agent to express their interest but are yet to table a formal offer amid uncertainty over their financial situation.

The Gunners have also recently welcomed back William Saliba to the club after he spent last season on loan with Saint-Etienne in Ligue 1.

Barcelona currently have Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti as their centre back options but it remains to be seen if Koeman will go in a different direction when he takes over.
