Edison Cavani makes sure he is very fit for past six months

Edinson Cavani is ‘like a Greek God’ and remains in sensational condition despite not having played competitive football for six months.

Manchester United’s new signing, 33, is said to be devoted to his strict fitness regime and prides himself on staying in elite shape.

He has to quarantine for 14 days having arrived in the UK and his involvement could be delayed until October 19 but in the meantime is working hard.

The striker posted a video of himself on the treadmill jogging in full United training gear.

According to the Athletic, he will arrive as one of the fittest players in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.

A source told them: ‘He is no fat, pure muscle, like a Greek god.

‘His body fat percentage is astonishing. He is fit and intense, and amazing in the air. He runs like a maniac.’

A source from Napoli told The Athletic: ‘He is a top, top professional. At Napoli, most players finish training and go around the corner to the golf course.

‘But he went for runs by himself and he would be the first in and last out.

‘He is kind of like Cristiano (Ronaldo), very on top of his body, a top professional and quite selfish on the pitch.

‘He wants to take every penalty and finish every counter-attack — a proper killer on the pitch.’

There are also parallels with Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who made a huge impact at United and is still going strong at AC Milan aged 39.

If he can provide the same cutting edge and drive to win as the Swede he will prove a shrewd acquisition for United.

Rafinha signed for PSG

Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have reached an agreement for the transfer of Rafinha Alcantara for an initial free transfer, with the French club committed to paying three million euros in bonuses.

Los Cules will also retain 35 percent of any future sale of the Brazilian midfielder, and only the completed medical examination stands between an official announcement.

Mundo Deportivo reported that the player travelled to Paris on Monday in order to complete the deal, although it wasn’t enough for the Blaugrana to sign Memphis Depay from Lyon.

Talks began on Monday morning, and until fairly late on in the process Rafinha was hopeful of staying at the Camp Nou, at least until the winter market.

Rafinha hadn’t received what he considered to be an interesting offer thus far this summer, but the chance to join up with Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Marco Verratti was enough to tempt him.

At the beginning of the transfer window, Barcelona had hoped to receive a transfer fer of around 16 million euros for the La Masia graduate, but that hasn’t happened.

For Thomas Tuchel, he is receiving a player that can work in multiple positions and slightly offset the loss felt by Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s departure.

PSG signed Porto captain Pereira

Danilo Pereira has joined Paris Saint-Germain from Porto a day after Moise Kean was signed by the Ligue 1 champions.

Paris Saint-Germain have signed Porto captain Danilo Pereira on loan for the rest of the season.

The Portugal midfielder joined the Ligue 1 champions on transfer deadline day in a temporary deal until June 2021, with PSG retaining an option to buy the 29-year-old permanently.

Pereira joined Porto from Maritimo in 2015 and he has gone on to make 202 appearances for the club, winning the Primeira Liga in 2018 and last season.

He has also featured in 30 Champions League matches, scoring once and laying on three assists.

Pereira on new challenge at PSG

“It’s a new challenge for me and to be part of Paris Saint-Germain fits my ambitions,” said Pereira.

“Joining one of the biggest clubs in Europe and in the world is a huge moment in my career and I hope to be able to bring a lot to Paris and its supporters.”

The arrival of Pereira comes a day after PSG signed striker Moise Kean on loan from Everton.

PSG boss Thomas Tuchel last week warned the club would not be able to be such a force in the Champions League unless they strengthen before the window closes.

That led to a retort from sporting director Leonardo, who said: “We did not like the declaration. If someone is not happy, we talk. But if he decides to stay, he must respect internal rules.”

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed the acquisition of Tiemoue Bakayoko from Chelsea.

“Welcome Tiemoue,” ADL wrote in one of his trademark tweets.

The French midfielder joins the Stadio San Paolo on a dry loan and according to Calciomercato.com, Chelsea will pay half of his wages during the current season.

Bakayoko had been linked with a return to Milan where he played on loan in the 2018-19 campaign under Rino Gattuso.

Manchester United received Dembele transfer boost as Barcelona close in on replacement

Manchester United have received a boost to their hopes of landing Ousmane Dembele on transfer deadline day as Barcelona close in on a replacement.

The Red Devils are still keen on adding the forward to their squad before the window slams shut on Monday night, with a prospective deal still on the table.

Dembele was unsure about whether he wanted to leave the Nou Camp and his preference previously was to stay and fight for his place.

However, Barcelona now look set to land former Man Utd flop Memphis Depay in a transfer that has been in the offing for more than two months.

Lyon star Depay is expected to completed a switch worth £25million plus add-ons, as he prepares to put pen to paper on a five-year deal that was agreed over nine weeks ago.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano claims Dembele will now be sold as a result, with United prime candidates to land his signature.

Spanish publication Sport claimed recently that Dembele snubbed the chance to move to Liverpool on loan, but the Premier League champions are not expected to be in the race on deadline day.

United turned their attentions to the 23-year-old after failing in their pursuit of Jadon Sancho.

The Red Devils are interested in taking Dembele on loan and have so far refused to budge over £50m to sign him on a permanent basis.

Barca are looking to recoup as much of the initial £96.8m they paid Dortmund for the Frenchman in 2017, but could be willing to drop their asking price to offload him.

Dembele has proved to be a difficult player to have around, with several misdemeanours against his name previously, mainly through missing training or turning up late.

His 2019/20 season was also hampered significantly by injury, as he made just nine appearances in all competitions for the Spanish club.

New boss Ronald Koeman was open to giving Dembele a fresh start but he is not considered among the regular starters.

Should United get a deal over the line, it could be one of three transfers they complete on the final day.

Full-back Alex Telles is due to arrive from Porto, while United are also set to sign free agent Edinson Cavani.

Jadon Sancho,Ben Chilwell and Tammy Abraham break covid19 rules again

England trio Jadon Sancho, Ben Chilwell and Tammy Abraham have been caught flouting Covid-19 regulations during a party on Saturday night.

The trio are still expected to meet up for international duty at St George’s Park this afternoon ahead of the forthcoming games against Wales, Belgium and Denmark, despite images of them attending Abraham’s surprise 23rd birthday party emerging on Sunday night.

It is claimed in The Sun that the England players were at the gathering of around 20 people, which clearly breaks Government regulations that state people cannot mix in groups of more than six, with fines of up to £10,000 applicable if rules are breached.

The party took place just hours after Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Crystal Palace in which Chilwell and Abraham featured.

Borussia Dortmund winger Sancho – who missed his club’s game this weekend with a respiratory illness while testing negative for Covid – is in England ahead of meeting up with his international team-mates today.

But the trio’s involvement in Gareth Southgate’s plans for the forthcoming games have been cast under a shadow as footage of the party appeared on social media.

Abraham issued an apology on Sunday night, saying: ‘I arrived home to find a small surprise gathering.

‘Though I was totally unaware this was planned, I would like to wholeheartedly apologise for the naivety shown for the organisation and attending of this gathering.

All I can do now is learn from it, apologise to everyone and ensure it never happens again.’

The threesome, alongside their England team-mates, will undergo Covid tests upon arrival at the national football centre today and no decision will be made on their ongoing involvement until the results are known.

The FA will confirm any squad withdrawals in due course, but may not confirm the reasons why.

Nevertheless, the party poses another headache for manager Southgate, who was beset by off the field problems during the previous international break.

The England manager had already planned to remind all his players of their responsibilities at a team meeting on Monday night after he was forced to axe Harry Maguire from his squad following allegations of a violent altercation with Greek police before booting youngsters Mason Greenwood and Phil Foden out his squad after the pair invited two girls back to the team hotel following the win over Iceland.

And Saturday’s party involving his players will only serve to disrupt his side’s preparations for this week’s matches – the first of which against Wales takes place on Thursday at Wembley.

Southgate is set to discuss the issue with the three players before deciding if any disciplinary measures are necessary.
